  • What is a Credit Registry?
According to the World Bank, a credit registry is defined as a database managed by the public sector, usually by the central bank or the superintendent of banks, that collects information on the creditworthiness of borrowers (individuals or firms) in the financial system and facilitates the exchange of credit information among banks and other regulated financial institutions (while their primary objective is to assist banking supervision)
  • Am I included in the Credit Registry database?
Your information will be in the Central Bank Credit Registry database only if you had a bank loan in the last 5 years.
  • Can I check my data on the CRIS?
You have the right to access your information in the Credit Registry database. You should write to the Central Bank (info@bancocentral.tl) giving your contact details (phone) and your identification number. This is a free service.
  • Who has access to my information in the Credit Registry?
Currently the access to the Credit Registry database is limited to banks and ODTIs. The Central Bank manages the system and also has access to the complete database. You also have the right to access your information in the Credit Registry.
  • How the Central Bank had access to the information in the Credit Registry Database?
The banks and ODTIs have to report borrowers’ details to the Central Bank’s Credit Registry regularly. The borrowers consent to disclosure the information as part of the loan process.
  • If my data in the CRIS is not correct, what can I do?"
First of all, you should contact the bank or ODTI who provided the information to the Credit Registry and ask them to correct the data. If the bank or ODTI does not correct your information with the Central Bank registry, you should raise a formal complaint with the Central Bank against the bank or ODTI. To do a complaint against the financial service provider, you must writte to the Central Bank email (info@bancocentral.tl) informing your contact details (phone number and email) and details and documents related to your complaint. The Central Bank will investigate the matter, will do the appropriated intervention with the financial service provider and get back to you.
